Your heart and cardiovascular system is one of the most important systems in your entire body. Controlled by your heart, this system is responsible for flowing blood around your body, ensuring you’re being provided with nutrients, oxygen, and hormones while also removing waste products like carbon dioxide.
If you believe you may be at-risk of developing a heart condition, echocardiography can pinpoint what issues you may have and where, allowing you and your doctor to respond with treatments that are right for you.
Take control of your heart health. Please, book your echocardiography appointment at Peace Diagnostic Imaging today.
Echocardiography, also known as an echocardiogram or simply as ECHO, is an ultrasound appointment that focuses on and takes highly-detailed images of your heart.
This process is very similar to our other ultrasound services, meaning they are minimally invasive and use no radiation, making it extremely safe for children who may have a heart abnormality. Echocardiography can measure the size and thickness of heart chambers. It can also analyze the heart valves to determine how they are pumping blood throughout your circulatory system.
Echocardiography does not require you to fast or to stop taking any medications before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothes that can easily be removed as you will need to have a bare chest for your appointment.
Please, do not wear any oils or lotions on your skin as they could interfere with the echocardiogram.
When you come in for your appointment, you’ll be asked to remove your top layer. Our technologist will then apply a clear gel on your chest to help ensure the ultrasound provides the clearest images possible.
Laying on the examination table, your sonographer may have you adjust to different positions as they use the ultrasound device to scan your entire chest area, your sides, back, and neck.
Examinations may take up to 45 minutes. Afterward, you’ll be able to change back into your regular clothes. Our team will then forward our findings to your doctor or cardiologist within 1 business day. We may forward the information on the same day if your needs are urgent.
By analyzing how your heart looks and operates, your doctor can use the images to diagnose various heart conditions, including:
