Women's Ultrasound in Grande Prairie

Most people equate ultrasound with the examination of fetuses, or Obstetric ultrasound. Most physicians have adopted the College of Physician and Surgeons recommendation to scan fetuses at least once in every trimester.

During these scans the sonographer will evaluate and image your baby and provide a technical impression and images for the radiologist to interpret. Your referring practitioner will then be provided a report to discuss with you at your next prenatal appointment.

PDI is happy to announce that, as per Alberta Health Services guidelines, we can now welcome one significant other to witness a portion (last 5 minutes) of the Obstetric Ultrasound exam. Our front desk staff will ask them to COVID screen, mask, and sanitize, prior to being let into the room with the patient.

The steps you may take to prepare for your ultrasound may differ depending on what needs examining. You will get clear instructions on how to prepare for the exam when you book your appointment. Some common preparations include:

• Fasting for 8 to 12 hours before the exam.
• Drinking plenty of water and holding your bladder if your bladder needs examining.
• Telling your doctor about any medications, supplements, or drugs you may be taking regularly.

Ultrasound exams use no radiation and are perfectly safe for examining fetuses in any trimester.
